Despite some terrific qualities I did not see the McGaughey family as a match for ******. Please share that I wish them success with their adoption goal as they appear to be a high quality family." ~ Case Worker
"Thank you for inquiring about ********* and ******** on behalf of the McGaughey family. Unfortunately, due to the number of services and connections the girls have at this time, we are looking to keep them in state (they were not in Missouri). However, if things were to change, I will most definitely let you know. I am keeping the family's information on file for ********* and ********. ~Case Worker
These are two examples of a responses we have received a few weeks after inquiring about a certain children. I also heard from one case worker that we are not being considered because we have younger children in our home which would not be a good situation for the particular child we inquired about.
We have sent inquiries for 10 children, all of which our licensing worker has sent for us. She informs us when the responses come back in as well. Some of our inquiries have been from kid's profiles we have seen on AdoptUSKids.org. You can see our profile to the left. You have to have a home study to be registered with them. Most other inquiries have been from profiles we have seen on state websites. Many states have what they call Heart Galleries where they post their kids.
We have heard back from a little more than half of the children's case workers working for the kid's we've inquired about saying we are not being considered. This sounds terribly depressing I realize, and while our hope is deferred a little each time, it will make the union sweeter when it does happen. We were told this is very typical for adopt only families and that you may receive many "no's" before you get the one "yes."
God is good, no matter what our situation "feels" like. Today I am encouraged to see the sweetness in the bitter things in life! Life goes on and life is good, so we haven't gotten too caught up in not being considered. We very much understand the process and all that goes into it. We do not feel discriminated against at all. There are so many things these case workers and families must consider in choosing a family that will work out forever, not just short term, so they must use a fine tooth comb. I still fantasize about having her or them with us for Christmas though, so not losing hope for that yet!
We check on a daily basis for new profiles of kids available for adoption. If anything new or juicy happens that is worth writing about, you better believe I will blog about it! For now, we search, wait, pray, and trust and enjoy our now family, which currently includes 6 very new fur babies.
